Napoli will be looking to win against Lazio in the Coppa Italia, despite holding the advantage of an away goal, says Rafa Benitez.
The Coach spoke today at a pre-match Press conference, and insisted that his team would not be seeking the 0-0 draw which would take them through.
“We’ll go out onto the pitch with the idea of winning the game,” Benitez assured.
“We’re an attacking team. Lazio are a team which creates a lot, but which can also be exploited, so we must take advantage of the chances we get and not give them space.
“At this point [in the season] you have to show character, to demonstrate what our level is as we’ve done so many times. We’re fighting on three fronts, we have to prove that we’re ready.
“Would I prefer Fiorentina of Juventus in the final? For me, it’s all the same, what matters is reaching the final. We’re thinking about Lazio and doing well.”
Marek Hamsik has been absent from the Partenopei side of late, could be be in line for a return tomorrow?
“We have [Dries] Mertens, [Jose] Callejon, [Manolo] Gabbiadini… many players who can play the same role.
“Marek is a professional who works very hard, so he’ll get his chance, we’ll have to see if he starts the game or replaces one of his teammates.”
Finally, the Spaniard condemned the banner which was displayed in Roma’s Curva Sud which mocked the mother of murdered Napoli fan Ciro Esposito.
“I’ve always said that for things like this but also racist chanting, territorial discrimination, you have to close stands and stadiums,” Benitez opined.
“These days, with social media, you can share opinions without any responsibility, and I think the law must be stronger, this is why in Italy there’s an ever decreasing number of people coming to the stadium.”
