“We filled the roles we were looking for with quality players, though the January window is always very difficult,” said the Coach in his Press conference.
“We could’ve done better, but we did what we needed to and lowered the average age by two years. The squad is on paper stronger now, but we have to prove that on the pitch.”
Jorginho and Anthony Reveillere have already made their debuts, while Faouzi Ghoulam is in the squad for tomorrow’s game.
Former Palmeiras defender Henrique is not yet available, as he must return to Brazil in order to finalise red tape issues.
“We played against Atalanta not long ago in the Coppa Italia, but tomorrow it will be a completely different situation. People tell me it is very difficult to play in Bergamo.”
Valon Behrami, Giandomenico Mesto and Juan Camilo Zuniga are still out injured, while Marek Hamsik is working his way back to full fitness after two months out.
“Hamsik is a reinforcement, as his effort and qualities are important for us. My staff evaluates the condition of the players daily, as playing every three days we must be wary of eventual injuries.”
The 1-1 draw with Chievo caused controversy, as Lorenzo Insigne reacted angrily to jeers from the Stadio San Paolo crowd.
“Insigne is a young player and he knows he made a mistake. Many fans realised it’s not positive to jeer the team. If we stick together as a group and support the players, it’ll be better for everyone. It is important to create a positive atmosphere.
“We need to be more concentrated to avoid dropping more points.”
