Torino midfielder Daniele Baselli felt “VAR acted the way it was meant to” after his side’s controversial 3-1 win at Lazio on Monday.

Lazio cried foul play as Iago Falque’s handball offence in the box went punished, before Ciro Immobile saw red – via VAR footage – for jerking his head towards Toro defender Nicolas Burdisso, which was considered to be an attempted headbutt.

“These are incidents that happen,” Baselli said after the game.

“I’ll say that the VAR acted the way it was meant to, although I haven’t seen [the incidents] back yet and I can’t comment on them.

“Lazio felt Immobile didn’t touch Burdisso? Of course, but the referee checked [the footage] to be sure and the decision was up to him.

“I’m sorry because these things shouldn’t happen, but we should also be talking about a Torino side that played with character and took three important points.

“This win gives us confidence, also for our next match, which will be important.

“Mihajlovic? He never talks to us after games. We’ll see what he tells us [on Tuesday].”
