Mario Balotelli admits a return to Serie A “is an option” amid renewed reports of an offer from Napoli. “We’ll know more shortly.”

The forward made an impressive Italy comeback after four years out, scoring on his debut under new Azzurri Coach Roberto Mancini.

The forward made an impressive Italy comeback after four years out, scoring on his debut under new Azzurri Coach Roberto Mancini.

His contract with Nice expires today, although a clause means the French club are still owed €10m by his next team.

That still makes him a bargain considering he scored 26 goals with two assists in 38 competitive games for Nice last term and he has been linked with Olympique Marseille.

“I am on vacation and still have a little bit to relax. In a few days, I’ll get back to thinking about football and my future,” Balotelli told La Gazzetta dello Sport.

“A return to Italy is an option, like many others. I’m still waiting, as at the moment I can’t say more than that. We’ll know more shortly.

“I have a meeting planned with (agent Mino) Raiola in Monte Carlo next week.

“I’ll never say no to Italy, without doubt, but as for the rest, we’ll see.”

Carlo Ancelotti is known for his man-management skills and wants a centre-forward of a more traditional style rather than Dries Mertens as a False 9, so Balo would fit the bill.

SuperMario would above all relish a move to Naples because his daughter Pia lives there with his ex-girlfriend.

He'd also be reunited with a friend, as he got on famously with Napoli star Lorenzo Insigne during international duty.
