Gian Piero Gasperini praises Davide Ballardini for ‘reviving’ Genoa and hopes Giuseppe Rossi can succeed at Marassi.

The Atalanta Coach, who has previously had two spells in charge of the Rossoblu, takes his side back to his former home tomorrow as the teams face off in Serie A.

“It’s always a pull to the heartstrings to go back to Genoa,” Gasperini admitted at his pre-match Press conference.

“Right now, Genoa are doing well. They are not in crisis like last year, Ballardini has revived them."

The Dea boss was also asked about injury-plagued forward Rossi and admitted Genoa were in the hunt for his signature as far back as when he was in charge.

“[President] Preziosi wanted him for a long time, several years ago I spoke to Pepito about it but he wasn’t convinced.

“Rossi has had a lot of problems, his situation is worse than Thiago Motta’s. But Genoa have a first class staff, they are capable of relaunching him.

“And I hope that they succeed.”
