“He is a champion and as such always manages to find a thousand reasons to motivate him. It might’ve been different motivation against Frosinone and Sampdoria.
“Franco Vazquez is an extraordinary player, someone who belongs at a big club. People go to the stadium to see players like this.”
Gila is an old hand at scoring in the Stadio Franchi, though Viola star Josip Ilicic is also facing his former club.
“I never worked with Ilicic at Palermo, but meeting him as an opponent I know his quality full well. The team must be tight to reduce his spaces, but Fiorentina have more than Ilicic. They can count on Borja Valero, Federico Bernardeschi, Matias Vecino and Milan Badelj.
“If we put in a big performance, we have to do it as a team, with the right attitude and quality. Tomorrow we’ll be facing the side with the most quality in Serie A, aside from Juventus.”
Ballardini noted Robin Quaison is available despite a slight ankle sprain, while Roberto Vitiello is also not 100 per cent fit.
It is a crucial result for the battle against relegation and fiery President Maurizio Zamparini is travelling with the club to Florence.
“We’ll say hello, but then the President will do his work and I will do mine. He already knows all about the team. He’s coming here to be close to the team, as he cares about this as much as we do.”
