Crucially, they can be promoted or relegated, as long as they never play in the same division as the first team.
This fact has irritated the Lega Serie B and their President Mauro Balata released a statement this evening.
“The President of the Lega B Mauro Balata has acknowledged with a sense of worry the words of FIGC sub-commissioner Alessandro Costacurta, who referring to B Teams said they’ll be promoted or relegated.
“It should be underlined that these decisions are not just regarding Lega Pro, but also the Lega B and should be discussed and shared between the components, not announced without any serious debate or planning.
“Albeit aware of the importance of helping young players to grow, a mission the Lega B has adopted for many years as over 30 per cent of the players are under 21, these decisions effect the characteristics of the Serie B tournament and must be reflected upon carefully.”
If the B Teams are promoted from Lega Pro, they’ll be in Serie B the next season.
