Roberto Mancini and the Italy squad had a private visit with Pope Francis in the Vatican this morning.
News agency Ansa confirmed the encounter, which came just hours after the Nazionale secured their place in Euro 2020 with a 2-0 victory over Greece.
That was played at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome, so the team was still in the Capital ahead of Tuesday’s next match in Liechtenstein.

Along with the squad, Pope Francis also greeted Coach Mancini, Federation President Gabriele Gravina and members of the management staff.
It’s reported the meeting with His Holiness lasted approximately 40 minutes.
