Skriniar completed his switch to Inter earlier on Friday, with Gianluca Caprari heading to Sampdoria in the opposite direction, but Karol Csonto suggested Atleti were also in the running.

“A month ago, we agreed not to renew his contract with Sampdoria and decided to wait for the European Under-21 Championship, and we did well because his market value grew after the competition.
“There were other clubs such as Atletico Madrid, who were willing to pay 20m plus bonuses, but it was blocked due to FIFA’s transfer ban.”
