The 71-year-old passed away on Thursday following a lengthy battle with cancer.
And La Dea have decided to honour their former boss by displaying his photo on the sleeves of their shirts for today’s home match against the Bianconeri.
Underneath the image will be the words: ‘Sarai sempre il nostro Mondo.’ This translates from Italian as ‘You will always be our world,’ with Mondo [the Italian for world] having also been Mondonico’s nickname.
Mondonico had two spells as Atalanta boss, memorably leading the Bergamo side to the semi-finals of the UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup in 1988.
His former clubs also include Torino, Napoli and Fiorentina. His last job was at lower League club Novara in 2012, before illness forced him to retire from coaching.
