Atalanta director general Pierpaolo Marino has expressed his satisfaction after Federico Peluso scored in Italy’s 2-0 win over Malta.
The left-back started the game in Modena and rippled the net late on which gave Cesare Prandelli’s side three vital points.
“We must be proud and happy for Peluso’s performance and goal,” Marino told Tutto Atalanta. “That should be an example to all of those players in our squad who are close to taking a step up in quality.”
Peluso caught the eye of Serie A onlookers last season and was only handed his national debut in the August friendly against England.
“His display is confirmation of the boy’s quality and his growth. It is also an incentive to those here who are close to the national side," Marino added.
“Who? Goalkeeper Andrea Consigli, our recent hero against Cagliari. Then there is Luca Cigarini and Ezequiel Schelotto.
“There are also a few other players who, out of superstition, I won’t name.”
