The Udine prosecutor confirmed the cause of Fiorentina captain Davide Astori’s death can only be ascertained “in 60 days.”
The 31-year-old defender died in his sleep on Sunday at the team hotel in Udine, where they were set to play Udinese at the Dacia Arena that afternoon.
His autopsy was performed today and the body has been released to his family for the funeral in Florence on Thursday.

“Only in 60 days, when we have a definitive diagnosis, can we say with certainty that there were no other causes or external factors involved,” Chief Prosecutor of Udine Antonio De Nicolo told news agency Ansa.
The toxicology report will take a while, but the initial findings of the autopsy point to “cardiac failure without evident trauma, so based on bradycardia.”
Bradycardia is when the heart beats abnormally slowly.
