Davide Astori has confirmed that he has rejected a lucrative move to Spartak Moscow in order to stay at Cagliari.
The Russian club had made the Italian outfit an offer, while Astori flew out to Germany to complete a medical.
However, the Azzurri international defender has had a re-think and now looks set to sign a new contract in Sardinia instead.
“I thank Spartak Moscow for their interest and the investment they were ready to make, but I’m staying in Italy and at Cagliari because I want to give a meaning to my career here,” he told the club’s website.
“My injury problems last season and me just missing out of Euro 2012 may have suggested that I was looking for a change, but that is not the case.
“There would have been a taste of unfinished business had I gone away now. I believe in this club, the new stadium project and the ambitions to compete in the League.
“I want to be a protagonist at Cagliari.”
The man born in January 1987, who grew up in the Milan youth system, has been at Cagliari since 2008.
