The Italy international has been on the bench for the first two rounds of the Serie A season, perhaps because of the fall-out from his failed transfer to Napoli.

However, Astori maintains the deal with the Partenopei was not as close to completion as people think.

“There was never the slightest chance I’d leave Cagliari,” he told Radio Deejay.

“That is why my summer was perfectly relaxed, in sync with the decisions made by the directors. Am I pushing for a contract renewal? No, I’m very happy with the deal I have now.”

Astori is expected to start in the lunchtime kick-off against Fiorentina, which is at 11.30am UK time. Click here for a match preview.

“This squad has been strengthened by the lack of sales. We know that we are a strong side.”
