It was announced yesterday that the Prato defender was hanging up his boots, after spells with the Rossoneri, Empoli and Genoa.

“The decision was made in the past few days, but for a while I’ve wanted to finish with playing football,” Antonini explained in a Press conference.

“My motivation was starting to drop, and though I tried to create new stimuli I realised it was time to retire rather than fall into apathy.

“I’d promised to finish my career at Prato and I kept my word, now in agreement with the club I’ve decided to finish my career.

“I thank my family and all the clubs I played for, with particular mention of Milan.

“I grew up as a man there, having the opportunity to play in the greatest stadiums which as a kid I never thought I’d even see.”

Antonini made 22 appearances as the Diavolo won the Scudetto in 2011.
