Napoli President Aurelio De Laurentiis confirms Zinedine Machach is a “prospect signing”, and Maurizio Sarri will have final say on Gerard Deulofeu or Simone Verdi.

Machach is in Italy today to take his medical before signing on a free transfer, and the Partenopei owner discussed his arrival on Radio Kiss Kiss Napoli.

“Napoli must also think about the future, not just the needs of the moment,” De Laurentiis said.

“Machach is a prospect signing identified by [sporting director Cristiano] Giuntoli, there will be other young players with him.

“We won’t be giving anyone a medal any time we buy a player, we often get it wrong too. Now we’ll bring him to our studios to sign.

“Deulofeu or Verdi? We’re multi-ethnic, but we Neapolitans are open to everyone, we like the music of every region in the world.

“It’s Sarri who will have to measure how much these signings can help him on the pitch, he’s the finaliser of our decisions.

“When it comes to prospect signings it’s a discussion, when we sign a player for now we need our Coach to tell us ‘it’s fine, he’s not a player who will need six months before he can play’.

“To make a signing like that you need the OK of both clubs and then the player.

“You can’t play fantasy football, players with price tags of €90m, even if they’d fit well in Sarri’s squad won’t be available in January.

“Will Roberto Inglese come now or in June, depending on Arkadiusz Milik? We can make a thousand hypotheses, but we can’t rule anything out.

“[Faouzi] Ghoulam could recover before Milik.”

De Laurentiis was also asked about the fact there is still no CT of the Italian national team.

“It’s the logic of being Italian, there’s always this continuous chaos.”

It was Maurizio Sarri’s birthday, did he get a visit from the President?

“Yes, the night before I went to Figline, it’s a fantastic place,” De Laurentiis confirmed.

We spent six hours together in perfect harmony – we drank a lot of red wine…”
