Napoli President Aurelio De Laurentiis drops some hints over where a new stadium could be built.

The Partenopei currently rent the Stadio San Paolo from the city council, but the owner is unhappy with the state of the stadium.

De Laurentiis has described it as “a toilet” and insisted that rather than buying the old ground “they should give it to me for free”.

The President wants to build a 20,000-seater luxury stadium, and could potentially take it outside of the city.

“For a long time there has been a habit of trying to guess where the next stadium and also the next training ground of Napoli could be built,” De Laurentiis said in a statement on the club’s website.

“This is also without having any feedback in that regard. That is why I would like to reiterate the following concepts.

“Firstly, the future stadium will not necessarily be in the same place as the current training ground at Castel Volturno.

“Secondly, the club has had numerous contacts with the mayor of Melito, Antonio Amente, and when it comes to the 100 hectares necessary for the project, this is one potential location where we could study the various hypothesised solutions.

“Thirdly, there is also a dialogue with the Mayor of Castel Volturno to continue, beyond the Regi Lagni, the construction of eight football fields with related services.

“Finally, there is an idea proposed by the Coppola Group to provide a large plot of land where both the stadium and the training ground could be built.

“We are studying these four proposals, the viability and the traffic and travel time for all Neapolitans and Campanians.”
