Paulo Fonseca insists that meeting Antonio Conte in a Serie A game between Milan and Napoli on Tuesday will not boost his motivation, but he feels that the Partenopei are the ‘best team’ in the league at the moment.

Many Milan fans hoped the Rossoneri would hire Conte to replace Stefano Pioli last summer, but the Diavoli picked Fonseca, while Conte signed for Napoli.

The Rossoneri boss was asked if this would boost his motivation when his team meets the Partenopei tomorrow.

“My motivation comes from being the Milan coach,” Fonseca replied.

“Tomorrow, it will be a different and balanced game against a team that defends well.

“Perhaps we’ll need to play more in the final 30 meters tomorrow. We must improve our ability to face teams that usually defend with a low block, but I think we have already improved in many things.

“As the table shows, Napoli are a strong team at a good moment,” continued Fonseca.

“They are the table leaders and will be motivated to face us. We are also motivated to play this match against a very strong team that has won games comfortably.

“Right now, they are the best team. I think Napoli are one of the teams that can win the title.”
