Udinese climbed up to fourth in the Serie A table after recording a 2-0 victory away against Cagliari in Serie A on Friday evening, thanks to goals from starting centre-forwards Lorenzo Lucca and Keinan Davis

Kosta Runjaic’s side have been one of the surprise packages of the 2024-25 campaign so far, contesting with the likes of Milan, Atalanta, Lazio and Fiorentina for a spot in the Champions League positions.

They were given a helping hand on their way to victory in Cagliari on Friday night, however, as Antoine Makoumbou was sent off for a second bookable offence on the half-hour mark.

It took Udinese just eight minutes to capitalise on their numerical advantage. Lorenzo Lucca headed in his fourth league goal of the season, his sixth in all competitions. The Friulians have now scored more headed goals than any other team in Europe’s top five divisions this season.

Lucca’s strike partner, Davis, powered in an excellent finish to make the scores 2-0 after 78 minutes. The Englishman collected the ball 35 yards out, took on two Cagliari defenders before slamming a powerful drive into the roof of the net for 2-0.

Udinese have climbed back up into the Champions League spots, now above Milan in forthwith a tally of 16 points from nine matches.

Cagliari, meanwhile, stay stuck in 15th and could mathematically end up back in the relegation zone by the end of the weekend depending on results elsewhere.

Full-time: Cagliari 0-2 Udinese

Lucca 38’, Davis 78’.
