Lecce coach Luca Gotti is hanging by a thread following this afternoon’s humiliating 6-0 home defeat to Fiorentina amid reports he will be fired.

The Salentini had already lost two in a row in Serie A before this setback at the Stadio Via del Mare.

They went down to 10 men due to an Antonino Gallo foul that stopped Dodo when going clear on goal, but were already trailing 2-0 at the time anyway.

Fiorentina went on to win 6-0, sparking a furious response from the crowd, who insulted players and club after the final whistle.

There were already reports from Sky Sport Italia that the club was ready to pull the plug on Gotti’s experience.

Those intensified when the planned press conference was postponed after the match so that he could have an emergency meeting with club directors.

They are currently third from bottom in the Serie A table with five points from the opening eight rounds.

More notably, it is their third consecutive defeat.

Among the potential replacements should Gotti be fired is former Udinese coach Gabriele Cioffi.
