Former Roma director Monchi says he didn’t talk to his former player Daniele De Rossi after he was sacked, but insists ‘nobody can question’ DDR’s love for the Giallorossi.

Roma suddenly sacked De Rossi in September 2024 after just four Serie A matches.

Monchi, now at Aston Villa, worked with De Rossi in the capital from 2017 to 2019 before the former midfielder retired.

However, Monchi didn’t talk to his ex-player when the club sacked him last month.

“No, I didn’t. We had spoken sometimes before, but I didn’t talk to him after that [his sacking],” Monchi told Sky Sport.

“I’m not there, so there’s nothing I can say. Nobody can question his love for Roma. His path was positive last season, but I don’t know what happened then, so I can’t say more.”

De Rossi has been a coach for SPAL and Roma and was one of Roberto Mancini’s assistants when Italy won EURO 2020.
