Lazio welcomed their ex-coach Sven Goran Eriksson ‘back home’ and fans honoured him with an impressive tifo before a Serie A match against Sassuolo.
There were emotional scenes at the Stadio Olimpico on Sunday before a Serie A match between Lazio and Sassuolo when former Biancocelesti coach Eriksson, who had tragically revealed a terminal cancer diagnosis this past January, returned to Rome to say goodbye to Lazio fans.
As reported by LaLazioSiamoNoi, the ex-coach held a speech before kick-off: “Thank you for everything. It’s so nice to see so many people. You are strong. I remember great years for me. I never had such a strong team. It’s the memory of a lifetime. Thank you for the invitation, and good luck today. Thank you, thank you, thank you.”
Eriksson posed with the trophies he had won at Lazio and the Olimpico giant screens showed pictures of their ex-coach, adding: ‘Welcome back home.’ The former Swedish tactician also walked around the Olimpico pitch waving at the fans.
Eriksson won seven titles with Lazio as a coach, including one Scudetto in 2000.
