Lazio president Claudio Lotito refused to support Ciro Immobile after the striker and his family were abused by fans in the street, claiming ‘it happens every day’ to him.
The Biancocelesti captain was with his wife Jessica and their four-year-old son when a group of fans approached on Friday afternoon, ‘verbally and physically attacking’ them in front of their son’s school in Rome.
A statement was released on Immobile’s behalf which condemned the incident and suggested that the media were partly responsible for ‘spreading words of hatred towards Ciro’. It was also confirmed that the Lazio striker would pursue legal action against the fans involved in the incident.
Speaking to reporters via Calciomercato.com, Lotito first confirmed the imminent arrival of new head coach Igor Tudor.
“The choices are made on the basis of what our beliefs are, these must be functional to achieving the objectives. In Tudor we saw a person who’s certainly able to direct the squad, having the experience, the character and the possibility of being able to employ resources in the best possible way.”
He clarified his recent comments regarding the ‘betrayal’ of former coach Maurizio Sarri.
“I didn’t talk about betrayals, it’s time to put an end to these things. Everyone must do their duty, I’m the president, the players are the players, and the coach is the coach.
“I only said when asked specifically that it came out of the blue, Sarri told me that he had the feeling of having been betrayed. Ask him about it.”
Finally, Lotito was harsh when discussing the abuse suffered by Immobile and his family.
“It happens to me every day. I have lived under guard for 20 years, I receive lots of death threats every day. I don’t make all this fuss.”
This guy sucks as a human being
Cries everyday for years, and when his player gets into a physical altercation he essentially says man up
Wish you the worst bud
Forza Lotito , Forza Lazio , Immobile is washed and so is Sarri.
