Mikel Arteta praised Italy international Jorginho following Arsenal’s 4-1 win over Newcastle on Saturday: ‘He was magnificent again.’
Jorginho started at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday, helping the Gunners secure a comfortable 4-1 victory against Newcastle.
Arteta praised the Italy international at a post-match press conference, as quoted by Football London.
“He’s a top player. Especially when opponents have certain behaviours and set-ups, the way I imagine the game, he was going to have a big impact,” said the Spanish tactician.
“After, you have to do it at this level. When he’s not playing consistently, credit to him because he was magnificent again today.”
Jorginho, 32, has made 25 appearances across all competitions this season, scoring one goal.
The Brazil-born playmaker with an Italian passport has scored five goals in 50 appearances with the Azzurri, making his debut in March 2016. He was part of the team that won the 2020 Euros.
A former Napoli and Hellas Verona midfielder, Jorginho has been called up once by Italy coach Luciano Spalletti, in November 2023.
Jorginho was recently named Arsenal MOTM in a home win over Liverpool. His contract with the Gunners expires in the summer, but the Premier League giants have an option to extend it until 2025.
