Marcus Thuram admits he cannot take credit for Inter’s winning goal against Juventus and is well aware his father Lilian will ‘tell me off’ for that yellow card.
The winner was a catalogue of errors, because both Benjamin Pavard and Thuram tried to redirect the Nicolò Barella cross and failed, instead it bounced in off Federico Gatti’s stomach.
“It was a very important match and we are happy to have won it,” Thuram told DAZN straight after the final whistle.
His sheepish celebration after the goal was the first thing to suggest he had not made any contact with that cross and he won’t take credit for it either.
“No, it is not my goal, it belongs to the team, it helps us get three points and we are very happy.”
Inter are four points clear at the top of the table with a game in hand, which is against Atalanta on February 28.
“There are many games to be played, we picked up three important points against a difficult opponent and are pleased. All the teams are strong, we suffer together and are a great squad.”
Thuram’s father, former Juventus defender Lilian, was in the stands at San Siro and might have words with his son about getting booked for time-wasting when substituted.
“Oh he always tells me off after every match…”
