Tottenham loanee Djed Spence made a convincing Serie A debut in Genoa‘s 2-1 win over Salernitana on Sunday: ‘An interesting prospect,’ wrote Tuttosport.

The 23-year-old was deployed as a left wing-back in a 3-5-2 formation at the Stadio Arechi on Sunday, contributing to a key 2-1 Genoa win over rivals Salernitana.

Spence played for the entire game and was rated 6.5/10 by all Italian sports papers on Monday: Gazzetta, Corriere dello Sport and Tuttosport.

All Italian media were impressed by Spence’s stamina down the flank. Gazzetta said he was ‘immediately ready’ while Tuttosport called the English defender a ‘very interesting prospect.’

Stats from SofaScore show Spence had 36 touches at the Stadio Arechi and only missed four passes from 23 (83% accuracy). However, he didn’t produce any shots on target and only won one ground duel out of three.

The heatmap from the Arechi game shows how the former Leeds loanee widely covered the left flank but was involved on the opposite wing as well.

Spence joined Genoa on loan until the end of the season as part of the Radu Dragusin deal in the January transfer window and the Grifone have an option to make his move permanent for €10m.
