Hakan Calhanoglu has made history this evening against Monza with his first ever Serie A brace, so fails to match the record set by Fabio Pecchia as the top scorer without multiples.
The Turkey international found the net twice at the U-Power Stadium, converting a penalty and then adding a second on the Marcus Thuram assist.
Incredibly, it was the first time he had been able to score more than once in a single Serie A match.
It was his 222nd top flight appearance in Italy between Milan and Inter, and until now he had scored 39 goals without bagging a brace.
That run ends tonight, so the record for top Serie A scorer without multiples remains Fabio Pecchia, who found the net 41 times in 41 different matches.
Calhanoglu has also provided 56 assists in those 222 appearances.
The double tonight takes his tally for the season to nine Serie A goals, matching his personal best set in 2019-20.
2+9 – Hakan Çalhanoglu scored his first brace in his 222 match in Serie A.#Calhanoglu has scored 9 goals in 20 matches in the current league season, equalling his record of goals in a single Serie A campaign (9 in 2019/20 in 35 games).
