Matteo Gabbia is set to return to Milan from his loan spell at Villarreal and will resume training at Milanello on Wednesday, reports Matteo Moretto.
The Italian centre-back is set to return to San Siro after spending six months on loan at Villarreal.
According to transfer expert Matteo Moretto, Gabbia will land in Milan this evening evening and train with the Rossoneri on Wednesday. Tonight, Milan host Cagliari in a Coppa Italia Round of 16 tie at San Siro.
Gabbia made 13 appearances across all competitions in Spain, including six in the Europa League.
Milan and Villarreal have agreed to end his loan six months ahead of schedule as the Rossoneri must boost Stefano Pioli’s options in defence.
Simon Kjaer is currently the only fit first-team centre-back, while Fikayo Tomori, Malick Thiaw, Pierre Kalulu and Marco Pellegrini are expected to remain out of action for several weeks.
The Rossoneri may get more reinforcements in the January transfer window and have reportedly set their sights on Arsenal’s Jakub Kiwior and Barcelona’s Clement Lenglet. However, the Frenchman is currently out on loan at Aston Villa and Unai Emery seems unwilling to part company with the 28-year-old in the winter transfer window.
Matteo Gabbia arriva stasera. Domani idoneità e allenamento con il Milan.
