Osian Roberts, a former Technical Director of FA Wales and assistant manager of Crystal Palace, has been appointed as Como’s head coach and will be ‘supported’ by Cesc Fabregas.
Fabregas was appointed as Como’s head coach last month, but the Spaniard hasn’t yet obtained a UEFA coaching license, and the derogation that allowed him to take charge of Como is set to expire soon.
That’s why the Serie B side have formally appointed Osian Roberts as their new head coach until the end of the season.
Como said in an official statement that the Welshman “will take charge of the first team in January supported by Cesc Fàbregas and the current coaching squad.”
Roberts is a former assistant coach of Crystal Palace and ex Technical Director of Morocco and Wales.
“We are thrilled to welcome Osian Roberts to our football family. With his exceptional track record in developing players and coaches, we envision Roberts as a long-term architect of success across all age groups and levels,” said Fabregas.
“We believe that with this appointment we have the right experience to create the blueprint for the ambitious Como playing vision. Together, we embark on a new era of footballing success.”
Como currently sit third in the Serie B table, two points below second-placed Venezia and four from leaders Parma.
Fabregas, a former Chelsea, Barcelona and Arsenal midfielder, replaced Moreno Longo in November 2023 and has won three of his five games in charge of Como, drawing and losing once.
