Fiorentina could be without Nico Gonzalez for quite a while, as the Argentina international was stretchered off in agony with a suspected serious thigh strain.

The striker was in the starting XI in Budapest for this evening’s Europa Conference League match against Ferencvaros.

He was on the end of some rough tackles early on, but it was a muscular injury that ended his game after just 18 minutes.

Nico Gonzalez was running in the penalty area when he suddenly pulled up screaming, clutching the back of his right thigh.

It was immediately evident this was serious and he had to be stretchered off in tears, replaced by Jonathan Ikone.

Initial reports suggest it is likely to be a lesion to the flexor or the hamstring, as it is very high up the back of the thigh.

This is a huge loss for Fiorentina, as he is their star forward and top scorer.
