Minister for Sport Andrea Abodi is confident that by the time Italy host EURO 2032, there will be ‘at least one new stadium built’ in Milan and Rome.

The Peninsula will share hosting rights with Turkey, so require five cities each to be locations for the matches.

While Turkey practically have all their arenas ready, Italy need to have serious restructuring work performed to get several others up to code.

The plan could also include both Milan and Inter trying to construct their own arenas on the outskirts of the city, while Roma are continuing their project to build a stadium too.

“This tournament represents a great opportunity that must generate a positive influence both before and after the competition,” said Minister Abodi.

“We need modern stadiums that are secure, accessible, technological and energy neutral.”

Milan and Inter both moved outside the city limits after becoming frustrated with red tape, and they are far from the only ones who have had plans in the works for years.

“I am confident there will be at least one new stadium built in Milan and Rome, but we also hope that over the next few months there is an acceleration in the process in Bologna, Cagliari, Verona, Parma and Palermo, just to name some that have been discussed for many, too many, years.”

Milan and Inter have both said they want their new stadiums to be ready for the start of the 2028-29 season.
