Fiorentina seemed to be in complete control with Nico Gonzalez and Alfred Duncan goals, but Lecce completed another impressive comeback.
The Viola won their opening Serie A trip to Genoa, but were beaten 1-0 by Rapid Vienna in the first leg of their Conference League play-off. Sofyan Amrabat and Luka Jovic were left out pending transfers, with Antonin Barak, Gaetano Castrovilli, Jonathan Ikone and Abdelhamid Sabiri injured, but Lucas Beltran had his first start. The Salentini opened their season with a 2-1 comeback win over Lazio.
Kick-off was delayed by a few minutes by technical problems meaning the referee could not hear her assistants via the communication system.
Nico Gonzalez towered above Ramadani to nod in an Alfred Duncan corner in the opening three minutes of the match, effectively knocking it onto his marker.
Duncan got on the scoresheet himself for the second, finishing off a well-worked team move with a diving header from six yards on an Arthur cross from the right.
Duncan almost completed a brace before half-time, as he was sent clear by a magnificent first-time Nico Gonzalez pass to split the defence, only to fire onto the base of the upright.
Lecce pulled one back after the restart, as Fiorentina were caught napping trying to play out from the back. Lameck Banda tried to cut inside Arthur, effectively setting it up for Hamza Rafia to smash into the far top corner.
Pongracic fired just wide from the edge of the area and Giacomo Bonaventura’s finish was deflected past the post after a good run.
However, Lecce completed the comeback from 2-0 down with their debutant striker Krstovic, who had just come off the bench moments earlier. He had started the move, it was spread to the left for a Banda cross and he anticipated Lucas Martinez Quarta for the header.
Fiorentina were awarded a penalty at the 80th minute for handball on a Rolando Mandragora strike, but it was revoked because M’Bala Nzola was offside in the build-up.
The Viola were so close in stoppages, as Josip Brekalo’s cross found a Christian Kouame header at the far post that shaved a coat of paint off the other upright.
