Italy international Wilfried Gnonto has reportedly submitted a formal transfer request to leave Leeds United for Everton, but his club is refusing to budge.
The 19-year-old only made the move to Elland Road last September for €4.5m from FC Zurich and scored four goals with four assists in 29 official games for Leeds.
He was unable to prevent their relegation from the Premier League and is now determined to walk away rather than play in the Championship, the English version of Serie B.
It is well known that Everton have made numerous attempts to sign Gnonto and that he is eager to make the switch.
The Athletic claim today that Gnonto has gone so far as to submit a formal, written transfer request, but Leeds are still not even going to consider any proposals.
It sets up a tense situation for the Italy international, who has 12 senior caps for the Azzurri, scoring one goal.
He wants to keep his chances of an Italy place in the Euros so to a great extent his wish to play at a higher level is understandable. However, the way he has gone about it is disgraceful. I would refuse his transfer request and play him in U21s and totally ruin his international plan
If a player isn’t happy let him go and use the money to buy someone who is happy to be here.
