Napoli are prepared to make Victor Osimhen the highest paid player in the club’s history and talks regarding his new release clause are now ongoing.

The Nigerian striker’s agent Roberto Calenda arrived at the club’s training camp in Castel Di Sangro yesterday to discuss the terms of a new contract with president Aurelio De Laurentiis, but Gianluca Di Marzio highlighted how the parties ultimately failed to meet.

Osimhen, who has two years left on his current Napoli contract, was the star of the show in their Scudetto winning campaign last season, scoring 26 goals in 32 Serie A appearances.

Pages 10 and 11 of today’s Gazzetta dello Sport detail how Osimhen is willing to sign a new four-year contract, worth around €7m net per season including add-ons, a club record salary.

The only major obstacle now is the release clause; the Nigerian striker would like it to be €120m, but De Laurentiis is not keen to go any lower than €160m.

Talks between the two parties are now ongoing and both sides are keen to finalise an agreement as soon as possible.
