Former Inter star Sebastien Frey claims there was ‘a clash’ between Romelu Lukaku and Simone Inzaghi that prompted the Chelsea striker to pursue Juventus, while he gives advice on their new goalkeeper.

Lukaku had been on loan from Chelsea and was in advanced negotiations to make the move permanent when suddenly it all crumbled.

It was reported that this was due to Inter’s fury at Lukaku discussing a possible transfer to their Serie A arch-rivals Juventus.

“I was told that just before the end of the season there was a clash between Inzaghi and Lukaku, which prompted the split,” Frey told TV Play.

Lukaku was on the bench for the Champions League Final against Manchester City, as Edin Dzeko was chosen as the partner for Lautaro Martinez.

“I can confirm that there are two paths Lukaku can take now, which are Juventus and Saudi Arabia.”

While Juve are interested, they also cannot bring in any new forwards until Dusan Vlahovic and Federico Chiesa are sold, with no likely deals on the horizon.

Meanwhile, Inter sent Andre Onana to Manchester United and released Samir Handanovic, so have no goalkeepers as they begin the pre-season tour of Asia.

“I think Yann Sommer would be good for Inter, while Emil Audero and Juan Musso are more suited to Fiorentina, they are not ready for a protagonist like Inter,” added Frey.

“At that point, I’d take a risk on Anatoliy Trubin of Shakhtar Donetsk. Whatever happens, Inter need to get two goalkeepers urgently.”
