Lazio are ready to offer Luis Alberto a significant wage increase to convince him to ignore the proposal from Al-Duhail.

There were reports over the last few days of a huge contract on the table that is worth circa €8m per season to sign for the Qatar Stars League side.

They would also give the Biancocelesti a transfer fee set at €15m for the 30-year-old, although as part of his original move from Liverpool, the Premier League club would be owed 30 per cent.

It is a tempting bid, but after qualifying for the Champions League, Lazio are eager to keep hold of the Spanish midfielder.

According to Sky Sport Italia and Radiosei, President Claudio Lotito is prepared to give Luis Alberto a contract worth €4m per season plus bonuses that will run to June 2027.

It is a significant increase from the current €3m per season, but still only half what the Qatari team is offering.
