Napoli midfielder Diego Demme is reportedly on his way back to Germany for Hertha Berlin after the Scudetto triumph.

The 31-year-old was part of the squad that won the Serie A title, but only made seven Serie A appearances this season for a grand total of 143 minutes of football.

It is precisely this lack of consideration that has prompted a return to the Bundesliga for the many who was born and raised in Germany to Italian parents, who named him Diego in honour of Napoli icon Maradona.

According to Sky Sport Germany, Demme is prepared to take a pay cut in order to push through the move to Hertha Berlin and the directors are very optimistic.

However, they still need to negotiate a transfer fee with Napoli and that is proving tricky, with his contract set to expire in June 2024.

He was signed from RB Leipzig for €10m in January 2020 and described it as a dream come true, but that soon soured with only 89 competitive appearances in the Napoli jersey, contributing five goals and four assists.
