Benfica president and former midfielder Rui Costa sent a message of support to Fiorentina ahead of their Coppa Italia final with Inter.

Vincenzo Italiano’s Viola will take on Simone Inzaghi’s Nerazzurri for the Coppa Italia at the Stadio Olimpico this evening. The two teams are in similar positions, having looked inconsistent in Serie A but impressing in their cup competitions, reaching their respective European cup finals.

Costa spent seven years of his playing career with Fiorentina from 1994 to 2001, helping the club win the Coppa Italia on two occasions. He formed a dangerous and iconic partnership with Argentinian striker Gabriel Batistuta.

Speaking to fan site FirenzeViola, Costa sent a message of support to Fiorentina and looked to fire them up ahead of their Coppa Italia final against Inter.

“I will be supporting Fiorentina from my home in Lisbon. The time has come to give joy to the fans who have always been close to the team. And to those who say that the Coppa Italia is worth little, I would like to say that in Florence lifting a trophy means a lot, trust me. Forza Viola!”

Fiorentina have not won the Coppa Italia since the 2000-01 season. Inter, on the other hand, lifted the trophy last season and will be hungry to defend their title.
