A doctor from the Slovakia national team has caused concern amongst Inter and Paris Saint-Germain fans after revealing the seriousness of Milan Skriniar’s recent injury.
The 28-year-old centre back has missed the Nerazzurri’s last five consecutive Serie A matches due to lower back pain, although he did take part in their two Champions League Round of 16 clashes with Porto, playing 91 minutes total across the tie.
Despite his injury, Skriniar accepted the Slovakia call-up for this international break, where they’ll kick off their Euro 2024 qualifying campaign against Luxembourg and Bosnia.
Speaking via Calciomercato.com, a member of the medical team from the Slovakia national team made a concerning admission regarding Skriniar’s injury.
“Skriniar first contacted me about a month ago, saying that he had back pain. In Milan he started physiotherapy and medical treatment but it didn’t help.
“They gave him an MRI scan, which revealed damage to the intervertebral disc.
“He underwent physical therapy, but his condition worsened. Milan now feels pain, even when resting. He is not in a condition to help us in the next qualifying matches.”
Rumours stemming from Inter have not spoken of any intervertebral disc damage, but there has been talk of ‘lumboglutalgic pain due to the compression of the sciatic nerve’.
No recovery time has been given for Skriniar at this stage and there’s a chance that he could be sidelined for a longer period than initially expected.
