SPAL President Joe Tacopina jokes that Donald Trump would buy Inter ‘If I challenged him.’

The Nerazzurri are operating with a reduced budget since the COVID pandemic in 2020 as the financial crisis has hit hard their owners, Suning.

There have been many rumours about the Nerazzurri potentially changing owners over the last few years, but President Steven Zhang has insisted that he’s not considering selling the club.

SPAL President Joe Tacopina joked about former USA President Donald Trump potentially buying a majority stake in the Nerazzurri.

“If I challenged him and said ‘you will never win anything with Inter’, he would then probably buy Inter to prove to me I was wrong,” he told the Italian Football Podcast.

“We have had some discussions about SPAL. He knows I am here. He called me the other day when I was in the stadium.

“He called me right after we scored a goal. We have scored like four goals all year, so God forbid I get to enjoy one of our goals for more than 35 seconds!”

Suining bought a majority stake in Serie A giants from Erick Thohir in June 2016 becoming the first foreign owners to win a Scudetto in 2020-21 with Antonio Conte in the dug-out.

However, their revenues have dropped since the COVID pandemic. The Nerazzurri have recently confirmed that their shirt sponsor DigitalBits, have failed to pay a single penny of the agreed sponsorship fees over this season while Chinese digital marketing agency IMedia paid the Nerazzurri just €150,000 of their agreed fees of around €23m.
