There will be a touch of Milan derby in the World Cup Final, with Olivier Giroud and Theo Hernandez’s France facing Lautaro Martinez’s Argentina on Sunday.

Les Blues secured a 2-0 win over Morocco on Wednesday night, booking a place in the Final against the South Americans, who had beaten Croatia 3-0 on Tuesday.

The Final will see, among other things, Theo Hernandez and Giroud face Lautaro Martinez in a mini-Milan derby. It will also involve Juventus’ Adrien Rabiot (France), Angel Di Maria and Leandro Paredes (Argentina).

It remains to be seen if the Argentinean striker will start given that he lost his starting spot to Man City’s Julian Alvarez in the last four matches. El Toro hasn’t scored in Qatar yet but converted a spot-kick in the penalty shoot-out that allowed his national team to beat the Netherlands in the quarter-finals.

Inter have had at least one of their players in a World Cup Final since 1982.

Theo, Giroud and Lautaro will meet in the ‘real’ Milan derby on January 18 in Riyadh in the Supercoppa Italiana clash between last season’s Serie A and Coppa Italia winners.
