Joaquin Correa has had a difficult start to 2022 but history proves that he could be the hero in Inter’s Coppa Italia semi-final against Milan tomorrow.
The 27-year-old Argentinian forward has struggled to play consistent minutes this season, suffering from both a muscle injury and a hamstring issue. His last goal contribution came in the 3-2 win over Napoli in November and he showed little of note in the 3-1 win over Spezia last week.
Despite this, history proves that Correa knows how to hurt Milan; he has faced them 11 times in the past, the most common opponent in of his career alongside Atalanta, and he’s netted five goals in those games. One of these was a Coppa Italia semi-final second leg with Lazio, playing under Simone Inzaghi in the 2018-19 season.
Correa will be dreaming of repeating this feat in tomorrow’s game, being the hero and finally giving him something to smile about again in an Inter shirt.
Both he and Inzaghi certainly need him to be the hero tomorrow. He has had a poor season so far and Inzaghi was most likely the driver behind his signing from Lazio, even though there were other options available that would have likely done better.
