Samu Castillejo will not be joining Sampdoria on loan from Milan after refusing to make the move to Liguria.
The 27-year-old Spaniard has hardly featured this season under coach Stefano Pioli, making only five Serie A appearances for a total of 122 minutes, but he is not desperate for more playing time, refusing to join the Blucerchiati.
As reported by Gianluca Di Marzio, Castillejo was clear in turning down Sampdoria’s offer, despite their attempts to convince him of the move over the phone. He refused to accept and now it’s likely that he’ll stay with Milan for the rest of the season.
Sampdoria’s negotiations with the Rossoneri had been going well, but unfortunately for them, the player’s will was decisive, forcing them to look elsewhere for a last minute reinforcement.
Castillejo has not made a single appearance yet in 2022, with his last game being 12 minutes in the 1-0 loss to Napoli back in December.

It seems like the problem is Samu and not all the clubs linked with him. You have to question his desire to play football, and the fact he never plays, picks up his wages and refuses a transfer. Get out of our club!
Idiot, niang 2.0
@Colucci.
Do you know his family situation? Maybe he doesn’t want temp moves? prefers stability? Would you take lesser pay and go off for an institution that is below your current employer? Easy for you to judge from the outside.
I honestly don’t blame him, the club should have forced him out, he is very comfortable not playing, Milan has a very bad habit of keeping bad players, and selling good ones, I does not deserve to even be on the bench, he lacks pride and dignity
@usman yusuf.
When a player wants to leave our clubs for more money and better teams, we question their loyalty, dignity, pride and self respect. Nothing is ever good enough for you guys, is it?
No one forced milan to agree to the length of contract offered to samu. He has never refused to train or kicked up a fuss. Like every individual with bills to pay and a family, he has the right to choose his next destination. Samu isn’t italian. maybe he doesn’t want to pick up his family and go to liguria for 4-5 months. Maybe he wants to go back to spain. Even when the shoe is on the other foot, you people somehow think footballers are slaves, and do as they’re told. grow up.
I fully agree @Rosario
I’m a Milan fan, but you do you. Samu!
@Rosario
He refused to join Valencia, if he wanted to go back to Spain he had a chance.
Like I said before, Samu dont want to miss out on the chance for winning the scudetto. Milan is in pole and he wants to be part of the group for a shot for the scudetto.
I think the emotion he showed after the Verona match made some people stop and think. He is human, and wants nothing more to be out there contributing. It’s not in Pioli’s plan so that’s hard.
Maybe he wants to stay and try to prove himself, its pretty clear that the players like him and surrounded him with love when he was emotional. Football is about money, but we can’t forget their is a human cost.
