Udinese have officially sacked coach Luca Gotti and promoted his assistant manager Gabriele Cioffi as interim manager, reflecting the way he got the job in the first place.
According to Sky Sport Italia, Gotti and Cioffi were called into the club headquarters this evening for a meeting with club patron Gino Pozzo.
A statement was released tonight confirming Gotti had been sacked and Cioffi would take over on an interim basis for this weekend’s Serie A game.
There are several options for a more permanent position, including ex-Granada boss Paco Jemez and former Cagliari coach Rolando Maran.
Gotti had spent almost his entire career as an assistant manager, a position he insisted that he much preferred to the pressures of being a head coach.
That included a spell at Chelsea under Maurizio Sarri in 2018-19.
He was also the assistant manager to Igor Tudor at Udinese when promoted on an interim basis on November 1, 2019.
The idea had been to remain there until the club found a permanent solution, but Udinese convinced him to remain and he signed a new contract this summer until June 2022.
Udinese’s poor start to the season proved decisive, managing four wins, seven draws and six defeats between Serie A and the Coppa Italia.
Grazie Mister #Gotti per queste stagioni insieme.

They haven’t done too badly considering the squad. But Italian sides love sacking coaches every 6 months. Don’t be surprised to see them re-hire him again in the near future, before sacking him again. And so forth.
If Italian clubs spent as much time improving themselves as they do sacking coaches, they might actually get somewhere.
About two years late. All he was good for was parking the bus.
@Milan Fan. Yeah, that bus parking helped us by taking points from Juventus and Atalanta earlier this season. Hopefully this destabilization is to our benefit this weekend.
NOONE
ABSOLUTELY NOONE
Gotti parking the bus: ends game with the score 4:4
LOL
The club sold De Paul and Musso in summer, but somehow it is Gotti who is responsible for decline in results. And I dont see who could have done better with this squad honestly.
