Former Genoa midfielder Lasse Schone said he still finds it ‘hard to talk about’ Christian Eriksen suffering cardiac arrest during Denmark vs. Finland at the Euros.
Schone returned to NEC in the Netherlands and for years he was Eriksen’s teammate both at Ajax and with Denmark.
The 35-year-old spoke about the moments when Eriksen collapsed in the final minutes of the first half of the Euro 2020 opener.
“One of the most difficult moments of my life,” Schone told Algemeen Dagblad. “I still find it hard to talk about it.
Denmark doctor confirms Eriksen suffered cardiac arrest: ‘He was gone…’
“I played with Eriksen for 10 years, between Ajax and the national team. Furthermore, I have already experienced a similar moment in my career, up close [when Abdelhan Nouri fell ill on the pitch in a friendly with Ajax].
“It was horrible. I have been through a very difficult time lately, but now it’s improving. This is also because I was able to speak with Eriksen in person.
“He received great support from the world of football, and Denmark have dealt with the situation admirably.
“That the national team have qualified [for the last 16] is fantastic.”
