Roberto De Zerbi reveals he punished Filip Djuricic by sending him to the stands against Atalanta: ‘Rules must be respected.’

The Neroverdi suffered a 5-1 away defeat at Atalanta on Sunday.

“We had a good start, but we allowed a goal early and we suffered their physical strength,” De Zerbi told Sky Sport.

“Today we wanted to play our football, regardless the opponent. We must always hold our heads high, we don’t do it all the time and I don’t like it.”

The Sassuolo coach explained why Filip Djuricic was sent to the stands.

“He had a wrong attitude with me before the Sampdoria game. He trained well after what happened, but it was fair to leave him out today. Rules must be respected. He is the player I’ve coached the most during my career.

“Not only he did apologise, but he also wanted to join us. He is a regular starter, but when a player commits a mistake a coach must intervene like he would do with his own son.”
