Referees will wear a black armband this weekend in all levels of Italian football after 25-year-old official Loris Azzaro was killed in a car accident.
Azzaro had been on his way to the airport, where he’d fly out to officiate a match, when his car crashed at approximately 6am local time.
He was 25 years old and working as a State Police cadet, but also refereeing in his spare time.
The AIA (Italian Referees Association) announced today that all referees in Italian football will wear a black armband this weekend.
