The Poland international has scored 11 goals across all tournaments this campaign and he was “happy” to help his team secure a win at the Marassi on Monday night.

Napoli are currently 10th in Serie A, only two points behind Cagliari at sixth, and back in the fight for a place in Europe next season.

“A goal is important if it helps you win. I am happy that it helped us to success,” Milik told Napoli’s official website. “We started very well, and the game was in our hands after 2-0.

“It’s too bad we didn’t take advantage of the supremacy and suffered under the pressure of Sampdoria.

“We were in difficulty during the second half, but we showed that we have fight in us. After they equalised, it wasn’t easy to turn the result to our favour again. But we did it and we deserved the win.”

After a turbulent start to the season, Milik claimed the Partenopei have put the “negative period” behind them and are only looking ahead.

“The negative period seems to be behind us, we are expressing ourselves in a good way,” he said. “But we must continue to work hard.

“We have strengthened the squad in January and today [Diego] Demme’s goal pushed us to win the game.

“We must continue like this, we can see the growth of the team, but we must continue down this path because there’s a long way to climb back to where we were.”
