Torino have officially parted ways with Walter Mazzarri and appointed Moreno Longo on a contract to the end of the 2019-20 season.

Longo is no stranger to Toro, having been a player here and also the successful coach of their youth team, winning the Scudetto and Coppa Italia at Primavera level.

Before accepting the role, Longo first had to terminate the contract still holding him to Frosinone, even though he was fired in December 2018.

The 43-year-old is from Turin and grew up in the Torino youth system, playing for them as a right-back from 1994-97.

The 43-year-old is from Turin and grew up in the Torino youth system, playing for them as a right-back from 1994-97.

His only senior management jobs were at Pro Vercelli in 2016-17 and Frosinone from 2017 to December 2018, when he took them to promotion from Serie B.

The decision was made to end the professional relationship with Mazzarri after a series of humiliating results, culminating in back-to-back 7-0 and 4-0 defeats to Atalanta and Lecce.

He had been in the job since January 2018 and took them to seventh place last season, but crashed out of the Europa League play-offs against Wolves.

Mazzarri leaves the club by mutual consent with 37 wins, 24 draws and 27 defeats in all competition.

The Granata lost their last four games in a row between Serie A and the Coppa Italia, scoring three goals and conceding 17.
