Cagliari have thanked ‘driving force and warrior’ Daniele Dessena after the club captain completed his move to Brescia.
Massimo Cellino’s club have reportedly paid €600,000 for Dessena and tied him to a one-and-a-half-year deal, which includes the option of a third season.
“Soul and heart, passion and determination, total dedication to the cause: Dessena closes a fantastic adventure with Cagliari, which saw him play a leading role for nine seasons,” Cagliari wrote on their official website.

“From 2009 to 2010 and from January 2012 to today: 206 games played and 12 goals. Born in Parma but of Sardinian origin, Dessena immediately established a strong relationship with Cagliari and Sardinia, a bond that led him towards inheriting the captain’s armband left behind by Daniele Conti, honoured both on and off the field.
“Over the last few years, he has been able to find the right words to introduce his new Rossoblu teammates, showing them the value of wearing the Cagliari jersey through example.
“On the field he was a driving force and a warrior: it is impossible to forget the two goals he scored against Palermo in front of our Curva Nord, in a crucial match for survival, on his first start after a long time out with injury, which had stopped him during our triumphant promotion season.
“For Daniele, a new chapter begins: Cagliari thank him from the bottom of their hearts for what he has done through the years in blue and red, wishing him all the best for the rest of his career. Good luck, Captain.”
The midfielder made only three starts for the Sardinians, having fallen behind Nicolo Barella, Filippo Bradaric and Artur Ionita in the pecking order.
